Cars for under £10,000

Got around £10,000 to spend, but really don't know what to buy? Our list shows the cars you can buy with a budget of £10,000. These are the cars priced from £10,000 and below.

Citroen DS3

undefined

The Citroen DS3 was a revelation when it was launched in 2010. Good looking and with a stylish interior, it is also great fun to drive - if only every Citroen was this good. It's been a big seller for the French firm and as a result there are plenty on the second hand market.

With all the personalisation that was available there's also plenty of choice. For this money you can get behind the wheel of a 2010 1.6 THP DSport model with mileage as low as 20,000, and you'll probably be able to find the bright colour that well suits your taste, too.

BMW 520d Touring

undefined

The BMW 520d Touring is one of the best all-rounders ever made, with a punchy yet efficient and very quiet diesel engine, and brilliant carrying capacity. BMW’s evolutionary approach to styling means the cabin hasn’t dated too much either.

Examples under £10,000 are highly likely to have six-figure mileages, but this car is built to last and there are a good few on the market to choose from.

Skoda Superb Estate

undefined

As estates go, we rate the Superb above all others - even cars costing twice as much. Nothing is as versatile or spacious as the Skoda, plus it's packed with user-friendly features. It's great value new and that's also the case as a used buy.

We'd suggest looking for a 2.0 TDI model if you're going to be covering big distances, but be aware that there are a lot of high milers out there. Avoid the DSG gearbox though - it's great when it works, but we've had lots of reports of problems over time.

Golf GTI Edition 30

undefined

The fifth generation Golf GTI was a real turning point for the GTI badge after its use on utterly insipid cars during the fourth generation. The Edition 30 was the ultimate version of the MkV GTI, with just 1500 landing in the UK, complete with unique alloy wheels and the iconic golf ball gear knob.

It still looks modern inside and out, and we found a 2007 car in great condition with less than 90,000 miles on the clock for £9,500.

Seat Leon

undefined

The latest SEAT Leon is miles ahead of the old model, which these days looks like it was designed by a young rave enthusiast called Darren. Basic S models of the car, released in 2013, are sinking below £10,000 mark now.

That probably means plastic wheel trims (unless the first owner specified them), but either way you're getting one of the most spacious, high quality and engaging-to-drive family hatchbacks on the market. £10k is enough for a 2013 car with less than 20,000 on the clock, based on some examples we found.
